Not To Be Missed ...
The following are plugs for stuff I'm currently enjoying and want to inflict uponshare with my friends...

Firstly, of course, we have Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion in the same show, and it's a Joss Whedon one. You must not miss this!
Dr Horrible's Singalong Blog is available free for a short time only and after that for some paltry sum of money. If you're in the USA or Canada you can grab it from the iTunes store too, but the rest of us just have to watch the free version...damm!

And while you're at it, Shadow Unit is between seasons. Well, technically anyway ... they have a truly frightening amount of DVD extras and DIY reruns showing in the meantime, as well as regular updates of the characters' LiveJournal accounts. These writers just don't know how to stop, guys!

If you've still got any free time after those, I highly recommend Escape Pod for audio science fiction stories and its bastard children Pseudopod (for Horror) and baby Podcastle (for fantasy, of course!). The latter two, I must confess, I have not yet listened to personally... but given the fact they're made by the same bunch that makes Escape Pod, I'm sure they're blissfully wonderful.

Oh, and for those of you who prefer ink on dead trees, Elizabeth Bear's "Ink and Steel" is now available in paper forme I have loved all the bits of her work I've been able to get my grubby little mitts on and highly recommend it. Unfortunately for us sighted-print-disabled bunch, Penguin has only made the e-book version available in "Mobipocket" format which means you have to be running Windows to access it. And as you'll all know I use a Mac, so I can't access the bloody thing! Still, it's not Bear's fault that Penguin are dumb, so trot along to her website and check out her other work if you're interested - some of the short stuff is readable online even!

These are your recommendations for today.... and if you include all the freely available past material of all the shows listed above, you'll be amused until at least 2009 I suspect.

I love the internet. That is all :)

Thanks for the links, I'm spending more and more time in bed following coming down with this darned chest infection and the whiplash from the car accident last week. I have to get myself together because I see the haemotologist next week and I see scans in my future...

Hope you're doing okay

Love and Hugs
Joey

At the moment I have The Plague(TM)... or, more probably, the flu or a bad bad cold. Whatever nasty winter virus is going around here. So much coughing and hacking and fevers and rainbow coloured snot and all those delightful things you know better than I. So it's a very good thing I'm not within plague-spreading range of you!

Aside from that, I'm working heaps on ATMac and not one but two Seekrit Projects and also my Mum's 60th birthday present. So yeah, just boring :)

Oh, and I have been watching Bones from season 1 because the eye candy value is huge and it's also interesting forensic procedural stuff. So if you haven't seen that, add it to your DVD list!

Love & Hugs,

I've just been playing with a dedicated reading application called Stanza from Lexcycle Software, which claims to read MobiPocket files (as well as scores of others). It's definitely still a beta product, but it does offer a nicer interface than many websites do. One can define font size, background color, multiple columns, and it offers both horizontal (single line) and vertical (single column) autoscroll.

It looks like a great app, but it doesn't cope with DRM'd formats which is what I need to be able to read this book :( Thanks for the link though - I think I'll put it on ATMac!

Yeah, the lack of DRM support is much moaned-about on the Lexcycle forum.

I pinged 'em with a couple suggestions, and the developers don't seem like they've looked over the shoulders of actual users.

They plan to make it free to people with disabilities, so I hope the ATMac post encourages people to try it out and give 'em feedback on their needs.

i was, of course, eagerly awaiting "Dr. Horrible", and so far it's pretty cute. i didn't know that Harris or Fillion could sing - although Harris sings like an actor, which means "someone taught him how to carry a tune", while Fillion - even though he's camping it up with the superhero voice - seems to have a bit more actual talent. now if i could just figure out how to download it without iTunes (or an iPod to store and play it on)...

It has already hit the bittorrent sites (and isn't a large download).
