Not To Be Missed ...
The following are plugs for stuff I'm currently enjoying and want toinflict uponshare with my friends...
Firstly, of course, we have Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion in the same show, and it's a Joss Whedon one. You must not miss this!
Dr Horrible's Singalong Blog is available free for a short time only and after that for some paltry sum of money. If you're in the USA or Canada you can grab it from the iTunes store too, but the rest of us just have to watch the free version...damm!
And while you're at it, Shadow Unit is between seasons. Well, technically anyway ... they have a truly frightening amount of DVD extras and DIY reruns showing in the meantime, as well as regular updates of the characters' LiveJournal accounts. These writers just don't know how to stop, guys!
If you've still got any free time after those, I highly recommend Escape Pod for audio science fiction stories and its bastard children Pseudopod (for Horror) and baby Podcastle (for fantasy, of course!). The latter two, I must confess, I have not yet listened to personally... but given the fact they're made by the same bunch that makes Escape Pod, I'm sure they're blissfully wonderful.
Oh, and for those of you who prefer ink on dead trees, Elizabeth Bear's "Ink and Steel" is now available in paper forme I have loved all the bits of her work I've been able to get my grubby little mitts on and highly recommend it. Unfortunately for us sighted-print-disabled bunch, Penguin has only made the e-book version available in "Mobipocket" format which means you have to be running Windows to access it. And as you'll all know I use a Mac, so I can't access the bloody thing! Still, it's not Bear's fault that Penguin are dumb, so trot along to her website and check out her other work if you're interested - some of the short stuff is readable online even!
These are your recommendations for today.... and if you include all the freely available past material of all the shows listed above, you'll be amused until at least 2009 I suspect.
I love the internet. That is all :)
