Stitch & Bitch
G'day,

I'm going to be holding a "stitch & bitch" afternoon here on Sunday the 5th of October starting at around midday and probably 2-3 hours, depending on everybody's levels of health and ability (including mine!).

What's a "stitch & bitch"?
Just low key social stuff and bring along any knitting/stitching/art/craft stuff you'd like to do while we chat. I don't do anything that involves high stress, even high social stress, so it'll be very laid back.

Who's invited?
YOU.
Seriously, anybody who wants to come, even if I don't know you really at all! New friends are always welcome. If you can make it to near St Kilda on the right day you're welcome. Contact me via LJ message or any of the ways listed on my profile if you want to come - I can provide phone number and address and public transport type directions.

Caveat Salutator
(this is my probably bad fake latin for "Let the Visitor Beware")
As you probably know if you're reading this, I'm perpetually sick. So this might end up having to be called off at the last minute. My usual deal is to tell visitors to phone me just before they start getting ready to leave to check I'm still OK for visitors. I know it's crap that visitors have to deal with this level of uncertainty, but that's just my life. I won't even know the night before if I'll be healthy enough to cope with visitors.

Access Stuff
This is a ministry of housing flat set up for wheelchair users, so it's fully accessible to wheelchairs and mobility devices (all entrances plus kitchen and bathroom). We're smoke free and relatively scent free but there is a Burmese cat here who persists in cuddling all visitors. Any other access-related stuff, just ask.

Whose fault is all this anyway?
[info]synecdochic is having one and I have been meaning to for ages and got all envious I couldn't go to hers. Plus, well, it seems like a cool idea to have one on the same day an LJ friend in the USA is having one. Distributed eventing?

Any other questions, just leave a comment or contact me any way you can.

Hope to see you there!

Cheers,
Ricky

I like the way you constructed this. I'm always in a quandary about how to explain the uncertainty of my illness to others and still be included.

I'd come, but I'm rubbish at crafts and then there's the transportation issue...

Good luck and have fun!

It is a bit far to swim... why don't you host your own though?

I always tell visitors that sorta stuff. It's just my reality and if they can't deal with it then we both need to know that up front.

You'll be missed!

You're very welcome. The craft part is pretty optional - you're welcome to come without anything, probably somebody will end up teaching you to knit! LOL

Directions will be forthcoming :)

Doug is up for that... he's sewing and I just taught him to knit. I'm not so handy... but I'll see what I can come up with.

The crafting is fairly optional, so feel free to turn up and just laze with us :) Actually I'm not even sure if *I* will have any craft stuff at this point!!

Will be great to see Doug :)

I started this one because I wanted to go to Synecdochic's but she's in Baltimore! Do you know local people and could host your own? I think we should get heaps and heaps of people to host their own crafty low-key social afternoons the first Sunday of every month and we could feel together in spirit :)

I don't really know anyone local who would be interested. But I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for someone else hosting one locally. It seems fun.

Likewise, Miss Ricky. :)

Fucking with people's heads can be fun. Especially because the people most susceptible are the ones who think that disability automatically makes us nice people who would *never* fuck with anyone... *evilgrin*

See you Sunday, health permitting.

Well, y'know, I'd probably come along, if I weren't round the other side of the planet. However, I do have a cross-stitch that I haven't looked at in *for ever* (I think the Xmas/New Year break from work). On Sunday, I shall do some, even if it is only one stitch, to be an honorary attendee :-)

Yay for honorary! Although I suspect you'd have to do your stitch at 5am to make it synchronous. You should host your own some time - I'm sure your town is full of crafty types :) I'm trying to spread the meme, can you tell? ;)

I hope you were able to have your event, and I hope it went well. In promised virtual fashion...I made a pompom for the cat to play with, cut out 16 cardboard circles so I can make her 8 more just sitting there of an evening after work, and sewed half of what will be a stuffed ball for her that I should finish tonight. Her favourite things are fluffy balls (which eventually she pulls apart, hence me making lots more) and pingpong balls (which occasionally get stepped on, but more often just disappear [probably under things, but not anywhere we can seem to find them...])
Didn't actually do any cross-stitch, but did get it all ready to restart - after I've finished furnishing my cat with toys. I know where the priorties must be!
Maizie
